My opinion on this is that it's DEFINATLY not ok to cuss. And it's not good to swear, and it's not really all that good to make a promise.
On the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said something to the effect of "You've heard not to swear in God's name, on Jeruselum's name, not even on your own name... but i tell you that you shouldn't swear at all."
Swearing is basically a promise. Jesus said not to make promises at all, so... i don't make promises...
... though i don't really see anything wrong with saying "yes, or no" and saying "yes, I'll be there if the Lord wills" and stuff like that... i just don't say "i promise"

<_<
>_>
My family is pretty vocal, not in a BAD way, but we speak our minds...Im mostly Irish,German & Rusian...so we have tempers. Though i only stay mad for like 5 min...
I swear..more than I should, but really only when im alone, sometimes with my friends, hardly EVER in public. I m really pretty polite & kinda shy in person.
If you swear in my oppinion, its not a mark on you as a person. To each their own, there is no rt no wrong. At the end of the day, you answer to yourself & God...how you live your life is your business. JMO

Well Mel is right about what it says in the Bible. I still say it's not ok to "cuss" (bleh, I hate that word) but to some people a certain "swear word" isn't concidered, and to others an every day word could be concidered a swear word. I believe if you say something out of anger -a word I mean- it's swearing and it's wrong. Or if it does not edify the hearer. About real swearing I don't. Unless it's a small thing where I'm like "no, I swear!" Promises? I usually say "I promise I'll do what I can" or something, because you never know what could happen to prevent you from fulfilling your promise! I say only make a promise when you are dead set on keeping it.

Is it ok to cuss?: No Do I still cuss?: Yes. Mainly when I'm by myself, but I've been expanding recently. >_> Is it ok to promise?: As long as you intend to keep your promise.

Is it ok to cuss? no and I never have
Is it ok to swear? I do not think so because of what the Bible says is Yeshua's sermon.
Is it ok to promise? I believe it to be ok if you know you can fullfill that promise and that it is not out of your human capabilites.

Swearing as is cursing? I do not swear. I never have, and never will because I have an example to set as a Christian. I firmly, with the greatest conviction, believe that it is wrong and not an act that a Christian should ever do. No child of God, one of his people, will ever be able to say a four-letter-word, or any other curse without feeling the greatest guilt and immediately seek forgiveness from the Almighty. People who have grown up in heavily-cussing homes or background and would habitually swear or curse can, after having become truly saved by God, put an end to their foul mouth. When the people around them start cursing, they will say, "Excuse me, but I don't feel comfortable with you saying that" or some other polite way to stop the other person. And if other people begin to mock you, remember the words of Jesus: "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." (Matt. v11,v12)When you stand up for what is right and are persecuted for, you are called blessed. If the habit is hard to stop, ask God for help. Once someone, who was accustomed to using strong language, becomes a true Christian, swearing will become repulsive to them. It can be overcome. But, some people say that it is okay to swear! That God will like you even if you do! This is false. An unclean tongue comes from an unclean heart. People who curse without compunction are NOT children of God, and if they call themselves "Christians", then they are hearers of the word only, and not doers. They call themselves Christians, but have no wish to follow God's commands or laws. A true Christian will be filled with the fruits of righteousness.Swearing as a promise? Jesus Christ in Matthew 5 says, "But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil." (v34-v37)Do not swear by anything, because if you swear, what good is your word of honor? If you have to say, "I did not do it, I swear!", then does that mean if you say, "I didn't do that." then your fellow men cannot trust you because you must make an oath to convince them or give you word? (This is different than legal actions where you must lay your hand on the Bible; I am talking about non-legal actions) So let your yes be yes, and your no be no. Let your word of honor stand, not needing to be back up by swearing to ensure your word is taken. Promising people? Do not let make promises like feathers in the wind, where you do not know if you can keep them. Only for the most grave and serious matters should you bind yourself to something or a deed to be done. But when you do make a promise: Keep It.

I'm fine with cursing and do it often, really only around friends and people I know; not around adults and usually not if there are females present.
I don't "I swear!"
I only make promises I intend to keep.

Cussing is wrong. In my opinion, cuss words serve no constructive purpose. It only gets others angry at you for cussing. One can get their point across and show they're upset in more constructive ways. Unfortunately, I do cuss ever once in awhile (way to often for my liking, in fact). Swearing is wrong. Just as Mel mentioned the sermon on the mount, Jesus did say, let your dealings be simply "Yeah" or "Nay". Making promises is fine as long as you keep them. Breaking promises is the bad thing.

This is probably a stupid question, but what if you people that say swearing is bad get called to testify? They make you swear on the bible, so what would you do? I'm just curious I don't like cussing, and I try not to, but I used to have a potty mouth and old habits die hard. Swearing... Whatever, I don't really have an oppinion. I do it, but I don't really see the difference between swearing and promising. I don't make promises... I make threats o.O
