I've been conflicted on this subject and I've been debating it over in my mind. Is it ok to go like 10 mph over the speed limit as long as you're being safe? Or should you maintain strict self-control and obey the law no excuses? Arguement #1: In the Bible it says to obey the law many times (I could find the verses if you'd like) So as a Christian, I'm obligated to follow the law- but I find myself speeding, not because I want to break the law but because I want to get to my destination! I agree that it can be dangerous, and sometimes I forget that I'm going too fast and have to remind myself to slow down. So speeding- if it's dangerous- shouldn't be done- and even if it isn't dangerous, it's against the law.. Arguement #2: Everyone speeds- well mostly, over here anyway, even the cops speed . One of the main rules in driver's ed was to go with the flow of traffic. So if you were being careful and just going with the flow so that you wouldn't cause people all around you to go crazy, slam on their breaks, get road rage etc... that wouldn't be breaking the law? or would it..? I can't wait till I move where the people actually drive the speed limit, then I'll be able to go the speed-limit and with the flow of traffic.. (though some people are slower over there ) So. Thoughts?

Well in North Carolina you're allowed to go up to 5 miles over the original speed limit... so everybody normally does... except me... i'm a new driver so i try to not take any chances... ... but so far i've gotten 5 speeding tickets, a couple of DUI's a criminal market, and a theft record taller than Minas Tirith... j/k I've not gotten any tickets... and i'm a normal person... and i definatly do not drink beer, nor will I ever.

Here in California everyone speeds and it is really dangerous. I have not started driving yet but I am planning on to soon. I wouldn't want to speed because of all the weird drivers out there who really don't care about you and your welfare. I do care about people and I want to be safe.....even if it makes everyone mad.

well...I am a careul driver, Im not gonna lie, I have had speeding tickets, Im usually ALWAYS late...I do have a lead foot. Im not saying its righ to speed, but in MI,pretty much the norm is everyone does at least 5-10 over. So i may not be 'legal' but I do it and I wont fault others for doing it as well. Im not about 'preaching' to others.

well, see, sometimes if you're really slow, and everyone else is going fast, you yourself could be a danger.. I'm trying to figure out what the heck is right and wrong!! Maybe I should go ask the police department "is it ok to speed?" "NO " "but I see police officers speed all the time!" "uh.. er.. uh.. you're under arrest!"

Well, I'm of the mind that that's bad. I never speed... excessively. I try not to go over 4% over the speed limit, although I generally go no more than 1% +/- the speed limit. Then again, if everyone else is going 70 in a 50 zone, it wouldn't exactly be safe to go 50... but I would.

that's what I mean, over here the speed limit is generaly 65 but people are normaly going 75-80. It's almost as if that's the normal speed.

I know it's a law to go the speed limit, but it also says in most states that you should go with the traffic.... it's rather contradictory.
I've had friends who got tickets for going too slow even though they were going the speed limit... everyone else was going much faster.
So, the speed limit is pretty much a joke.

I usually go a little bit faster or I just follow what the traffic is going.

<_< >_> I speed all the time And I've never gotten a ticket! Well, I've been pulled over a bunch, but my dad is a Sergeant with the Sherriffs Office, and since the only 2 people above him don't patrol, everyone is afraid to give me tickets. So they give me a warning, and threaten to tell my dad, but they never do. Actually, I think if they told him he would tell everyone to start giving me tickets, but thankfully no one has worked up the courage. But generally, as a rule of thumb, I try not to go more than 50% over the speed limit, except on my road. Since there is next to no traffic, and about 3 houses, I can go about 80. It's unmarked though, so technically the speed limit is 70.

For me I try to stay within 5-10 miles within the speed limit, is that still wrong?

I don,t think going 5 mph over the speedlimit is wrong. Police officers usualy give tickets if you are going more than 10.
