Crie swirled her blade twice then put it back on her hilt and then said a matter of factly, "I'll be sending you a bill." She turned with all seriousness and started to walk out.

Soleia watched her walk away with a half smile and soft chuckle. "If you were serious I'd say it was worth every credit."

"You cannot buy forgiveness, my friend, or friendship." She waited for Soleia at the door. "Say farewell to your past, it remains here." She stepped onto the elevator and was gone.

Soleia stood in place for a moment and looked up at the now starlit sky. She looked ahead again and walked to the elevator without so much as a backward glance.

When Soleia stepped out of the elevator, Crie started walking alongside her. "I admit, though, it wasn't easy to do, for me, I mean."

Soleia looked at Crie as they walked. "Which part?"

"Putting you through that." She clasped her hands behind her back, "I knew you could handle it, it's why I gave you all I could, unshadowing every doubt, every fear. I almost think this was more my trial than yours." She gave her an amused look.

Soleia said nothing for a moment, she felt an indescribable emotion swell within her at Crie's words. It had hurt Crie to see her suffer. Crie, the master whom Soleia had treated with such indifference and coldness during her early years at the temple...she whom Soleia had once foolishly and selfishly ran away from to go "find her place in the force". She whom Soleia attacked out of anger and frustration during the battle on Theed. Crie...whose husband Soleia had killed when she'd fallen to the dark side. If anyone had a right to watch her suffer with indifference, it was Crie Crystle.
She turned to Crie again, realizing just how much she owed to this woman who had put up with her through everything. There was an unspoken agreement between her and Crie, they'd both put the past behind them, but Soleia wanted her former master to know how much she appreciated her.
"Crie, I wasn't a good padawan to you. If I could go back and start again, do things differently, I would. Yet I believe going through what I did, helped to make me stronger and taught me things that I otherwise would never have learned; but I don't believe any of it would have profited me without your guidance. You took a lot from me, and still gave me a second chance..." there was a pause. Soleia laughed softly and shook her head. "Well, let's face it, you gave me second, third, fourth and fifth chances." She sobered again. "I say all of that, to say this: I couldn't of asked for a better master, and I'll think myself fortunate if I can be half the Jedi you are."

Crie stood where she was for a few minutes, it had taken so much out of her life to train Soleia. She reminded herself often to be patient with her. The one thing she wanted most was to see Soleia on the right path and knighted and she had tried all she could to help that happen. And now, after so long, Soleia finally recognized what Crie was trying to do for her. But she hadn't had that satisfaction in her mind for more than a few seconds before it swept out again and she became the seasoned, starchy Jedi she always was.. "A Jedi defends and protects all living beings, Soleia.." She looked at her, "even from themselves.. I did my job." She bowed a small bow then jumped into her Jedi Fighter and zoomed off.

After Crie had gone, Soleia walked through the darkness back to her ship. She'd spent all the time on this planet she cared to, she was ready to go home. A bitter wind swept across the valley from the ocean and Soleia crossed her arms to shield herself from the cold as she looked across the vast expanse of the rocky wasteland. Three moons shone in the cold ebony sky, distant and somehow haunting.
She'd passed the trials. It was done. Her heart did not swell with pride, nor did she feel a deep sense of accomplishment. It wasn't about the title, it wasn't about being accepted. It made no difference whether people called her Soleia or master Jedi. No, that wasn't what mattered...
She'd walked the path of darkness, and she'd come back. Darkness was not forever. She was free. Even in this tainted world, shackled in the chains of darkness, she was free. Free at last, free forever. She closed her eyes and felt the cold wind bite her face. It was like the dark side, beating against her constantly, longing to be let back in, but it couldn't extinguish the flame within her. It couldn't destroy the peace.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"So you did it."[/glow]
Soleia kept her eyes closed and smiled faintly. She whispered into the wind, "Yes."
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"What will you do now?"[/glow]
"Live."
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"That sounds like a good plan."[/glow]
She opened her eyes and looked at Narijj. His ghostly blue form seemed to glow in the darkness, casting a sense of calm about him. "You belived in me, that day you came to Peril's Grip, you came because you belived in me."
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"And I haven't stopped. Don't think that it's going to get easier, Soleia. You've passed the trials, but trials of many kinds will follow you all your life. With every new challenge, comes a test. You can fail, or you can come through stronger. You never stop learning. "[/glow]
Soleia nodded gravely and looked out across the landscape again.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Don't forget who you were when you were defeated, Soleia, lest the victory be forgotten with it. But don't let it weigh you down, the trial of your past is won; the trials of today will suffice."[/glow]
Soleia turned to Narijj again, but he was gone. "I won't forget, master Valle." She entered her ship, closing the landing ramp behind her. Soon the engines roared to life, and The Voyager's Fable lifted off the ground and shot into space, leaving the barren dark world behind.
